Rivers of Belief by unicornslave Rivers of Belief by unicornslave
Finally done - just got word it has been received, so here it is for all to see - finished. There are some detail shots to follow as well, but this is the overall quilt. Every piece of fabric in here has a reason, one of the things that made it such a labor of love. I chose each one, not just for it's color but for a reason relating to Canth's ( *godunderfoot ) game - Dermal Highway. Hope you all like it.. apparently, she does... which is a good thing... except I can't convince her that as a quilt, it's purpose is to keep her warm, not put up on a wall... sigh.

A little background info - this is my first lone star quilt. Probably shouldnt have attempted a spiral on my first try, but I got through it. It is the third quilt I ever made...

All hand pieced, beaded, machine quilted and couched... hand appliqued with the butterflies and the unicorn on the back. The back is made of a single piece of black Minkee microfiber fleece - softer than soft... SO incredible... meant to be fondled and touched and just tactilely experienced...

It wrapped the bodies of both of my beloved dogs as they went into The LIGHT!...

And on February 27th, 2015, it was presented to my adopted grandbaby, Riven Story Knight, as an heirloom to be passed on to her children.

Rest assured that it is not on a wall. It is still with me, and has kept me warm on winter nights as I work, comforted my dying adopted mother, and been the comfort of many a baby crow or foster kitten in addition to being a beautiful addition to a well situated tablecloth on festive occasions.

It's still in use for what it was intended, and has held up excellently over the years.

It's amazing!

Some people just don't get it, some people see it as a heirloom even if it's made to be used (like the irish chain flannel one I made that's backed with fleece for a baby - the mother had put it away in a box for when baby married... *sigh*) and then there are the people who appreciate what you do and use it the way it was intended and more. It's possible she just doesn't want to get it dirty because it is so beautiful.

You have such a good eye for blue stuff. And for acquiring some of the neatest shades of blue in that collection of yours ... :)

This is absolutely gorgeous. I love the spiral combined with the star points. Your color choice is fun and amazing. The combination of both form and function is wonderful.

Your quilts are really amazing! They go beyond the traditional folk art look into what (I think) is like gallery quality fine artwork.

WOW. I know you've made a whole bunch of quilts since this one, but I'm going to have to say that this is my favorite. I was really impressed with "all colors are of god" also (seriously, it looked too perfect to be made with fabric, i thought it was digital arts o_o), but this one... it must be the calming effect of the colors. absolutely gorgeous.

I would cuddle in it if I was the owner!

That is absolutely INSANE! in other words: that is very cool. How long did it take to make? How many different fabrics did you use? Did you have to use a quilt rack? I love asking questions ^^

Thanks! It was really an insane choice for my third quilt, but it was for a very special friend, so it needed to be a very special quilt. It took me several months... now, a year and a half later, and lots more quilts done, I could probably turn that one out in a week if I concentrated on only that - however, if you've seen my gallery, you know that I haven't done actually done another spiral lone star... yet. Could and would are so very different. haha...

Anyway - I was very impressed by your quilts - esp. that first quilt! anyway - I will comment on them individually.

Thanks.. it was a bit complicated, but not really so much because it's hard, as that it was my third quilt ever and I was doing it from a book, without a teacher, yanno? I'm glad you like it. :)
