Finally done - just got word it has been received, so here it is for all to see - finished. There are some detail shots to follow as well, but this is the overall quilt. Every piece of fabric in here has a reason, one of the things that made it such a labor of love. I chose each one, not just for it's color but for a reason relating to Canth's ( *godunderfoot ) game - Dermal Highway. Hope you all like it.. apparently, she does... which is a good thing... except I can't convince her that as a quilt, it's purpose is to keep her warm, not put up on a wall... sigh.
A little background info - this is my first lone star quilt. Probably shouldnt have attempted a spiral on my first try, but I got through it. It is the third quilt I ever made...
All hand pieced, beaded, machine quilted and couched... hand appliqued with the butterflies and the unicorn on the back. The back is made of a single piece of black Minkee microfiber fleece - softer than soft... SO incredible... meant to be fondled and touched and just tactilely experienced...
Some people just don't get it, some people see it as a heirloom even if it's made to be used (like the irish chain flannel one I made that's backed with fleece for a baby - the mother had put it away in a box for when baby married... *sigh*) and then there are the people who appreciate what you do and use it the way it was intended and more. It's possible she just doesn't want to get it dirty because it is so beautiful.
